The stamps feature designs by Frank Lloyd Wright, Eero Saarinen, Mies van der Rohe, among others. The First Day of Issue ceremony was held at the American Institute of Architects headquarters in Washington, D.C. The stamps were part of the American Architecture series, which began in 1979.
