We invite you to participate in a University of Akron study on cultural expectations for men. Until

now, existing measures have tapped people's opinions on the cultural expectations for young men.

Very few research studies have asked mature men and women their opinions about the cultural

expectations for mature men. Also, nearly all the existing measures were based on college-age

men's social worlds, rather than on mature men who may have adult children, or may be

approaching retirement or have retired, and who may have faced the responsibilities of caring for

their partner's ill-health.

We have developed a new measure of cultural expectations for men to address these issues, and are

now recruiting men and women over the age of 30 to complete the online survey. Would you be

willing to help our research team by participating? The survey is 71 questions long and takes about

15 minutes to complete. Upon completion, you can choose to be entered into a raffle to win $50.

Participation in this study is entirely voluntary and you may refuse to participate or discontinue

answering questions at any time without penalization. Data collection will be entirely anonymous.

You will be directed to another website where you will enter identifying information in order to

enter the raffle but the researchers will not be able to link that information to any particular survey

responses, maintaining confidentiality. All responses to measures will be confidential and will not

be traceable back to the individual. Records of this study will be kept private. Any published results

will not contain personally identifiable information and your name will not be associated to any of

the data.

If you have any questions about this study, you may contact the investigator, Dr. Ronald Levant

University of Akron Institutional Review Board, IRB # 20150911. IRB can be reached at (330) 972-
