WWII German Mountain Corps Pocket Altimeter/Barometer - an absolutely amazing example of a rare item! Examples have been attributed to the 36th Mountaineering Corps Norway through the wars end; uses almost certainly attributed elsewhere during the war. The barometer itself was manufactured by R.Feuss” of Berlin-Steglitz, serial number stamped on the face is 127930.
Outer bezel reads altitude in meters and is adjustable. Inner static bezel for barometric pressure reads 560 to 790 in millimeters of mercury. Face markings are Höhenmesser (altimeter) and Kompensiert (compensated). Rear has marking "T. 5." and is dated 1937.
The altimiter body is in excellent condition and includes the top lanyard ring. Ring shows some slight marring. Rear of the instrument is in pristine shape except for minor marring of the slot of the access cover screw.
Also included is the original brown leather protective/carrying pouch. The pouch shows age, wear, some staining on the cover, with deterioration on the closure tab. The severed part of the tab is placed in the cover. The pouch is marked not only with the manufactuer information, but also the German proofmark. The stamped Waffenamt is WaA217 coincident with the Mauser-Werke out of Borsigwalde from 1935-1937.
