For sale is a pair of fully dressed Audi B8 A/S4 Bixenon headlights that have been modified with a G5r projector, smoked side marker lenses, chrome deleted for gloss black look, and finally finished off with new front lenses that aren’t OEM, but the eBay replacement option.
The headlights come with used Osram Xenrac bulbs and halogen turn signals, although I suggest swapping these to LED turn signals for maximum turn signal visibility.
The headlights have been meticulously opened up, had the projector swapped for a clear lensed G5r projector. Additionally, the ugly amber side markers have been deleted for a pair of light smoked lenses - these aren’t painted lenses but true replacements that mimic the e-code headlights.
While the front lenses were off, the headlights underwent a chrome delete that involved fully disassembling the headlight insides and taping off the necessary areas for paint. The blackout effect looks great and really darkens the headlight housing without tinting the front lenses. The black out was completed with VHT high temp paint for temps up to 250° which is plenty of overhead for the running temp on the headlights. Additionally it’s been at least 4 weeks since the paint has gone on before the headlights were sealed so there was plenty of time for the paint to fully cure prior to full reassembly.
New butyl sealant, Morimoto retrorubber, was used in the process of modifying the headlights. The butyl channel was cleaned out prior to adding new butyl. I also like to add desiccant packages to the housing in easy to reach areas that are entirely removable but cut down on the chance that the headlight will fog. Prior to installation. It’s best to allow the headlight some time, 24-48, hours to acclimate to your climate to avoid fogging. Again, I’m not an expert but have a decent amount of experience on Audi B8/8.5 headlights.
The front lenses have been replaced with new front lenses from eBay that aren’t OEM and are surely from China, but are fresh and pit free. I suggest lamin-X ing the front lenses but that’s up to the buyer.
Everything has been tested prior to reassembly of the front headlight lenses and all works exactly as expected. Please let me know if you have any questions and I can always test them again; however please understand that I no longer have a B8 or B8.5 to test these on, so while I can bench test the main beams, the high beams, side markers, and turn signals for some reason I need a car to test the LED DRLs which can always be done.
The headlights aren’t perfect which is important to understand. For example, both headlights have a damaged but epoxied mounting tab on it. Additionally, the housings were purchased second hand and in the case of the left side had two cut wires I wasn’t aware of when I purchased the light but have since fixed for the new owner; the first was the headlight bulb wire from the ballast, an OEM one was spliced in so you have plenty of extra cable for the connection, and secondly the high beam shutter wire on the same light was cut and has been mended with a 2 pin flip connector.
