I'm looking for volunteer work dealing with mental health and addiction. Crisis Services website says they do extensive training but does anybody know the amount of time it takes? Instead of calling all of the different agencies, I would like info from people that volunteer now. Any suggestions? Prefer to work with adults instead of kids/adolescents. Appreciate any info you can offer. Thanks! Web search hasn't been very successful but I'm sure my fellow WNYers will be a better resource.

We are getting as many people together as we can to protest in a few weeks at this Garbage Dump of a pet store.
For over 10 years, they have received their dogs from Puppy Mills and Back yard Breeders.
These BYB's and Puppy Mills are secure locations where they purchase as many female dogs as possible, a few males, and breed them until they can no longer give birth.
When females need C-sections while whelping a litter.. They are killed to save the expense of the surgery.
They live in their own feces. Up to 20 small breed dogs in one medium sized kennel.
The kennels are stacked on top of eachother and as the feces fall out from the one above, the dogs are covered.
They receive no veterinary and/or medical attention and live in unsanitary conditions.
No genetic health testing is done to clear the dogs of Hip Displasia, Elbow Displasia and other genetic flaws and diseases.
These dogs are often NOT purebred.. and end up in shelters within just a few months or years.

These animals NEED your support right now more than ever!
4-6 MILLION ANIMALS DIE IN SHELTERS EVERY SINGLE YEAR!
Please email me for more details and your support!

All dogs are welcome!!
The Priscilla Project is a program that mentors pregnant refugee women, starting new lives here in the city of Buffalo.
Mentors commit to weekly visits, 2-3 hours in length, helping a woman by becoming an emotional support, and assisting her in navigating the resources available to her.
Mentors and mentees typically become extremely close and often, mentors wind up attending the birth!
This is your chance to empower women, experience international culture locally, and in general make a difference for someone who needs it!

Every year women from all over the world flee their home countries in fear of violence. Many are placed here in Buffalo as refugees from places like Darfur and Burma.
Most have no friends, no family, and no support to help them through.
To add to the challenge, many are pregnant, in need of intensive medical care due to living malnourished in refugee camps for up to ten years.
Among their most pressing needs is the need for a strong, caring capable friend to help them adapt to life in America, talk things over, and teach them new skills.
Could that friend be you? Would you stand and support a refugee woman in her most vulnerable moments? Email to learn more!

Discovery Studios, a division of Discovery Communications, Inc., is producing a new series of hour-long documentary style shows about hoarding, which will air on TLC. We are currently recruiting people who would like to participate. If you, or someone you know, is interested, please keep reading.

For those willing to participate, we will offer assistance with finding licensed therapists as well as professional organizers who can offer support.

If you or someone in your life is chronically disorganized, we welcome the opportunity to speak with you. The goal of the series is to promote better understanding of why people hoard, what steps can be taken to deal with the issue, and how a comprehensive exploration of this common problem can lead to positive change for the people involved.

We understand the very personal and sometimes embarrassing nature of this issue. Our series will treat all program participants with respect and compassion.

If you or someone you know is interested in discussing the project further, please contact: candace_boissy-cw@discovery.com (240-662-4163)

The Lockport Rage semi-pro football team is now accepting applications to qualified coaches that are interested in expanding their coaching knowledge to a bunch of young men that are trying to broaden their horizons in the game of football. We have AFL1 scouts at all of our home games and have players that are in contract talks with teams in Arena 1 football as well as the CFL. Any potential coaches that want to volunteer their time to the Lockport Rage organization will be subject to an interview by the Lockport Rage board so we can choose the most quailfied coaches to help turn this team into a championship team. We are in our 4th year of exisistence, we play in the USFA league, which consists of 34 team spreading throughout NY, PA, OH, MI, WV, and KY. We travel to the away games by bus, and our home games are in LOCKPORT NY at OUTWATER PARK. The games are on saturdays with a start time of 7:30. We practice 3 days a week before the season starts for roughly 2 hours, and when the season starts the practice days go down to 1 with a day of game film at our team bar, FINNANS in LOCKPORT. We would like any potential coaches to have a list of their expierences in coaching with them upon the interview and at what level they have coached before. This is to determine the offensive and defensive philosophies that you as a coach have to what we have installed the past 3 years. We want to have the best qualified and the best fit for this team as we have a lot of talent that has taken us pretty far in the 2 leagues that we been in. Any potential coaches can call myself or my player rep for any information about the team. Will Stiles - 716-628-1276 or Jerry Simon 716-440-0607.

Players- Any players that are interested in playing for the LOCKPORT RAGE for the 2010 season must register at FINNANS in LOCKPORT on Dec. 30th at 6p.m. The cost is $20 pre-register, and $25 for the Rage combine in March. If you pay the $20 at the pre-registry, you will NOT be required to pay the $25 at the combine. For any additional information on the RAGE, we have a FACEBOOK page that you can request us as a friend, or you can look at our website for any details on any events and practices that are to come. Google LOCKPORT RAGE and click on the leaguelineup site. For any information please dont hesitate to call myself or jerry at the numbers provided. Thanks and we cant wait to get the 2010 season rollin.

If you would be interested in volunteering your time to knit, crochet or sew chemo caps I look forward to hearing from you.

650,000 people are diagnosed per annum with cancer. Most of these people are and will undergo chemotherapy. One of the side affects of this treatment is baldness and hair loss..hence the chemo caps.

Most commercial caps made do have a wool and wool blend mix and are made for heads with hair. Chemo caps are made with an acrylic, cotton yarn as the wool can cause discomfort for the patients due to them being scratchy. The chemo caps need to be very soft and warm.. If made seamless can be used as Sleeping Caps. We lose most of our body heat through the tops of our head, so these warm caps would be ideal for chemo patients; women, children and men.

Upon receipt of your email, I will respond as promptly as possible with further information and details.

I thank you very much in advance!!! and look forward to hearing from you.

Arts nonprofit seeks office volunteers (Buffalo Allentown)

Our organization provides arts assemblies and workshops to schools and community centers throughout Western New York. Many children would not experience a classical performance, dance class or poetry-writing workshop without the low-cost, high-quality arts programs that we provide. And we're always looking for help! Tasks can be suited to your interest but could include bundling curriculum, organizing the office, stuffing letters, or a range of other administrative duties to support our marketing, educational programs, and fundraising. We're a low-key office located in Buffalo's Allentown district. Assistance would need to be during office hours (any time between 8:30 am - 6 pm Monday-Friday). If you believe in the importance of giving children access to the arts, or just enjoy getting out of the house to do some office work, please get in touch. Mature volunteers are highly encouraged. You can learn more about us at www.yawny.org.

*** Please note this is UNPAID, volunteer work. Internship arrangements with college students can also be made. If you are interested send an email with a bit about your relevant experience and personality.

Thanks, and take care!

I am looking for bedroom furniture or anything else of help that you are willing to donate. We were recently in a fire and lost everything. We did get some help from social services but not nearly what we needed. I have 5 children and they are apreciate of what they have but I would like to make it better for them. So if you have anything in your garage that is just going to wast and not being used maybe you would think about donating it to our family. I have a 15 year old daughter that sleeps on the couch and has no place of her own. I have two younger boys that just have twin matresses on the floor and no boxsprings. They all share one dresser and keep the rest of ther clothes in cardboard boxes. I am moving to better home where they will have their own space but nothing to put in it. You dont realize how much you have until you lost it all! I know someone out there can help! I dont have much means to pick anything up, I have no car or family to help....but I will pay a fee if you can deliver. Gas money is not a problem and I have a couple of hands to help. your garbage may be our treasure!
What everyone needs to realize is that Single mother's are some of the hardest working individuals in today's society. We, single mother's can't catch a break.
We ARE very hard workers BECAUSE we strive to take the best care of our child and we NEED our jobs so we go out of our way to make the company happy.
SINGLE MOMS ARE THE HARDEST WORKERS!
I also have an excellent recommendation letter from my most recent employer.
If anyone here knows anywhere hiring for full time office work, please email me with an email address. I have ALOT of experience and Im driven to succeed.
I've already been going through ads on Craigslist (most are scams), Yahoo Hot Jobs, Monster, Career Builder, etc......... Ive tried everything and yes- I have been to interviews. Just no luck at being hired at the right pay yet.

Amatuer Models

I am a local artist who is attempting to further his development and portfolio work for personal and exhibition use. I am looking to create work involving digital photography. I am currently developing concepts and sketches of some of the ideas I have that I would like to make into final creations. I am looking for amateur models (male, female, couples, etc) who may want to pose for photos. I am asking for amateurs because I want fresh faces that would make for more unique work for me. I noticed through browsing photography sites online most of the photographers in WNY use the same people. Not that this is bad, I just like to be different.

I can not offer payment, However I can give you copies of the finished pieces you and I come up with. These photos can be put in a portfolio of your own, be for experience or even be just to try something new. I have a model release/Contract form that protects both the model and myself from various issues that maybe of concern such as the misuse of images, strict purpose, modifications, etc.

E mail me if interested. Also make sure to include the style of work you'd be interested in so we have something to work with right off the bat for what our guidelines will be (Non nude, implied, nude, etc). I do not have a studio so you may also include what settings you'd feel most comfortable in as we would have to find one that is neutral(nature, indoor with plain background etc). If for whatever reason you decide to back out please inform me. I have had nurmerous enquires where e mails were exchanged with concept ideas, location and such, than once it came down to an actual meeting for a shoot the model stopped emailing me back. I don't want to be left hanging. Thanks in advance
