I purchased this console while in Japan last fall on business. Due to it being a Japanese system, it won't play DVD format because of the REGION CODE. That includes Playstation 2 games and DVD movies. SONY MAY RELEASE AN UPDATE TO FIX THIS BUT I'M NOT SURE
HOWEVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It plays Blu-Ray format no problem as Blu-Ray has no Region Code. This means it will play all PS3 games and Blu-Ray Movies. All menus are in English and it operates and functions just like an American PS3. No power or voltage conversion is needed.
